St. Willibrord Priory

The Sacred Iconography of St. Willibrord Oratory

The iconography was inspired by the ancient Italo-Byzantine style, and especially from the ancient Imperial Basilica di San Vitale, the Cathedral of the Emperor Justinian in Ravenna, Italy. All of the iconography is original sacred art by Master Ivan Astapchenia, an Orthodox Belarus artist who was commissioned by St. Willibrord Priory.

The Imperial cross on the east wall of the sanctuary was directly taken from the Sixth century mosaic at the Basilica di San Vitale, the Cathedral built by the Emperor Justinian, the Great.

The central icon of Christ Pantokrator from above the central sanctuary window.
